HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A suspect was hospitalized after an officer-involved shooting in west Houston on Thursday, according to the Houston Police Department.

HPD said that officers responded to the shooting when a man called police saying that a suspect was pointing a gun at him and his child at 6:44 p.m. in the 14300 block of Westheimer Road. Upon arrival, police say officers told the suspect to drop his firearm, but he refused and ran.

Police said that the suspect ended up in the 2200 block of Briarview after the chase. The suspect didn't comply with law enforcement and pointed his gun at officers, authorities said.

HPD said that an officer, who was with HPD for five years, discharged a firearm, hitting the suspect. No officers were injured at the scene, HPD said.
